How to Have a Successful Bad Day

Ever have one of those days? The one where you slept through your alarm and woke up late but you hustled to get ready and still got out the door on time? Thinking you had things under control, you get in the car and realize that the tank is almost empty. Now you’re really going to be late. You stop and get gas but were in such a hurry, you dripped gas on your shoes. Great. It had to happen on the day that you have to give that important presentation. Oh man. What next? On the way to work your phone buzzes and you find out that the presentation will take place two hours earlier than scheduled and now you’re not going to be ready. You wing it but you know that the boss wasn’t happy. And not only that, he kept asking why he smelled gas. It’s still morning and you wonder what will happen next.

Those kind of challenging days are similar to the Whack-a-Mole arcade game. Remember those annoying moles popping up so fast that hitting them became a personal vendetta?

Doesn’t life sometimes feel like Whack-a-Mole? Problems and challenges pop up all of the time. We deal with one problem and soon after, up pops another. One crisis is averted and pop, pop, pop, three more appear—faster than we can handle. What’s the point?

It can be easy to start feeling helpless. That’s where faith comes in. The problems and hassles of life are going to keep popping up—they’re never going to stop, because that’s just how life is. Relying on your faith can help you get through your challenges. Faith gives you the strength to get up each morning and face those problems, even when it’s really hard. It gives you the ability to know which battles to fight and which ones are not that important. Faith gives you clearer perspective which allows you to see your challenges as useful learning experiences instead of annoyances that are getting in the way of your happiness. So the next time you have one of those days, hold tight to your faith and you will be able to conquer any challenge that pops up.
