10 Bible Verses for Those Struggling with Anxiety

Anxiety has a way of creeping in when we least expect it—through a late-night worry, a racing heart in the middle of the day, or an overwhelming to-do list that feels impossible to conquer. But the beautiful truth is that we are not alone in our struggles. God’s Word offers comfort, peace, and gentle reminders that He is with us, even in our most anxious moments. Here are 10 Bible verses to cling to when anxiety threatens to take over:

1. Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This verse reminds us to bring our worries to God. When we do, He replaces our anxiety with His supernatural peace.

2. 1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)

“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

God doesn’t ask us to carry our burdens alone. He invites us to give them to Him because He truly cares.

3. Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Jesus encourages us to live one day at a time, trusting Him for the grace we need today.

4. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

God promises to be our strength. We are never alone when we feel overwhelmed.

5. Psalm 94:19 (NLT)

“When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.”

Even when our minds are crowded with anxious thoughts, God’s comfort can restore joy.

6. John 14:27 (NIV)

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Jesus offers a peace that’s different from anything the world can give—deep, abiding, and lasting.

7. Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)

“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”

Sometimes, a kind word—whether from Scripture, a friend, or even yourself—can be a powerful antidote to worry.

8. Psalm 23:4 (ESV)

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

God walks with us through the darkest valleys. His presence is our comfort.

9. Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God’s love is unshakable, even when our emotions are all over the place. Nothing can pull us away from Him.

10. Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This verse is a charge and a promise—God is with us, wherever we go, whatever we face.
