4 ways your faith can flourish outside

When the church steps outside, revival often follows. Across the country, Christians are discovering the sacred in sand and sunlight. Outdoor faith expressions—baptisms, beach revivals, and open-air worship—are making a powerful return. It’s raw, Spirit-led, and radically public.

Here are 4 ways faith is showing up outside:

1. Baptisms in nature. In Virginia Beach, a local youth ministry held spontaneous baptisms during their summer camp week. After a night of worship under the stars, more than 30 students walked into the ocean to publicly declare their faith.
Natural waters—from lakes to oceans—are becoming sacred spaces where believers boldly say, “Yes” to Christ in front of family, friends, and strangers.

2. Worship on the beach. A California church began offering “Sunset Sundays” during summer—acoustic worship services right on the sand. Tourists joined locals, often staying long after the last song to pray and connect. From folding chairs to blankets in the sand, these worship gatherings are drawing diverse crowds who may not have stepped into a sanctuary—but feel God’s presence at the shoreline.

3. Sunset devotionals. In Michigan, a young adults group started hosting weekly devotionals at a bluff overlooking Lake Huron. With Scripture, a short message, and silence as the sun sets, it’s become a space for healing and reflection. There’s something sacred about closing the day with God, outside. No screens. Just sky, wind, and Word.

4. Street corner services. In Atlanta, a team of Christian artists and pastors set up a portable speaker, microphone, and cross on a busy corner. They sang, preached, and offered prayer—and people stopped, listened, and some even cried. Faith is flourishing outside the walls. No invitation needed—just open hands, a public space, and the courage to worship where life happens.
