Drew Brees shares what ‘changed me forever’ in Hall of Fame speech

Drew Brees used his Pro Football Hall of Fame speech to reflect not only on his football career, but on the faith he says gave his life a deeper sense of purpose.
Brees recalled suffering a serious injury as a teenager that threatened the athletic identity he had built his life around. Then, on his 17th birthday while sitting in church, he said, “Christ came into my heart and changed me forever.”
He described feeling “protected, connected and directed” toward the path he believed God had for him. Brees also reflected on his decision to join the New Orleans Saints, describing it as part of “God’s calling” for his life. Years later, that path led to a Super Bowl championship, NFL records, and ultimately the Hall of Fame. But during the ceremony in Canton, Brees emphasized that his identity and purpose extend beyond football.
