Daughter of deacon killed in Texas church shooting says she forgives the gunman

Faith Counts

Tiffany Wallace’s father was shot just feet away from her during a shooting at their church in White Settlement, Texas, on Sunday, Dec. 29. He’d just given out communion.

Anton “Tony” Wallace, a deacon and lifelong member of West Freeway Church of Christ, was one of two people killed by a gunman who opened fire on parishioners before he was shot to death by congregants who fired back.

Amidst the chaos, Tiffany ran to her dad.

“I was just holding him, telling him I loved him and that he was going to make it.”

But Tony died in the hospital.

Tiffany said her father was a godly person. “Even when talking about heaven, he said he was always prepared.”

The day after her father’s murder, Tiffany told NBC News that she had chosen to forgive the gunman, even though “that’s the hardest thing to say.”
