Epiphany: You can leave your Christmas tree up until Jan. 6

While many retailers run “12 Days of Christmas” sales during the 12 days leading up to Christmas, traditionally, the 12 days of Christmas begin on December 26 and end on January 6, the traditional date of Epiphany.

Epiphany, also known as the Feast of the Three Kings or Twelfth Night, is a Christian holiday celebrated on January 6th each year. This date extends the festive spirit well into the new year.

Three Wise Men
Epiphany commemorates the visit of the Three Wise Men or Magi—Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar—to Jesus in Bethlehem. In some cultures, it is customary to enact the “Three Kings’ Procession,” where people dress up as the Magi and parade through the streets, reenacting their journey.

Various countries have distinct culinary traditions associated with Epiphany. In Spain and Latin America, the “Rosca de Reyes” is a sweet bread adorned with candied fruits, symbolizing the crowns of the Magi. In Greece and other Eastern Orthodox countries, a special cake known as “Vasilopita” is prepared, often containing a hidden coin or trinket.

Epiphany is a holiday rich in religious significance and diverse cultural traditions that signals the official end of the Christmas celebration.
