Mississippi teen who found a missing elderly man says God led her to him
When Katy Qualls, 17, stumbled across a post on her neighborhood’s Facebook page that said a local man with dementia was missing, she knew she had to do something.
Qualls knew the family and realized the man would be subject to frigid temperatures outside. She begged her parents to let her join the hours-long, community-wide search.
While many people were searching the woods for the missing man, Qualls took another path—to a nearby house.
“I hear something, I turn to my left and he’s laying (sic) on the floor on his side, backed up into the bushes,” Qualls said. “He blended in with the mulch, so you wouldn’t have seen him unless you actually walked into the bushes.”
At first, Qualls said she couldn’t explain what led her to the man or how she was able to pick him up and carry him out of the bushes, staying by his side until he was reunited with family.
Then she realized: “It was just all God.” Qualls said she believes God led her to the man’s exact location and for a divine purpose.
“With all the stuff that’s happened in my life recently, I feel like [God] has a plan for me. … I don’t know what it is, but I know it’s going to be helping people.”
