Religion can help you keep a work-life balance
By Anna Medina
The correlation between religion and success at work is scientifically proven. Religion helps motivate workers to set priorities at work–and at home. Faith can be highly influential in giving employees guidance on how to navigate their households and careers. Even the duty of attending a religious service can help set external limitations on time spent on the clock. Here are three ways that religion can help create a work-life balance in your life:
Your job may be a calling–but it’s not your only calling
Many religious people perceive that doing their job and doing it well is a calling–as part of their purpose in life. Instead of complaining, their faith moves them to joyfully execute their daily tasks and duties. Each co-worker is to be treated fairly, and every task is to be done with excellence. While this may be true at the workplace, it can also be true at home and in the house of worship, where workers are also compelled to take the necessary time and space to serve just as faithfully–if not more–in those capacities, as well.
Your faith helps you resolve issues quickly–at work
Another way religion has an impact on work is the ability to find peaceful and correct solutions to challenging situations and conflicts between colleagues. It helps that you don’t carry the heavy burdens of the job, but you try to pass it on to a higher power. This makes the day move along, as people can then work peaceably with and beside you, regardless of what may be going on at work. Religious people can also be less likely to challenge authority, start a dispute or quarrel, or spread gossip–leading to a more productive day.
Religion gives you perspective–and a better understanding
A religious person may have the benefit of having some things that may be quite unique on their team–a good disposition and perspective. When you have perspective, your expectancy changes. You already know there might be some bumps in the road and you’ve come to expect and adjust to them. There will be good days and bad days, but at the end of the day, you have a special hope that eventually everything will work out and things will get better. Even if you lose the job, it won’t be the end of the world because you have that hope. When you have perspective, you can relax (somewhat) and are free to focus on other things than work, because you have an assurance that things are ultimately in good hands and will work in your favor.
