Watch Botham Jean’s brother hug ex-officer Amber Guyger who killed him: ‘If you truly are sorry—I forgive you’

It was an emotional moment when Brandt Jean, 18, asked the judge if he could hug Amber Guyger. The jury had just sentenced the former Dallas police officer to 10 years in prison for killing his brother.

When she fatally shot Botham Jean in his own apartment in 2018, Guyger said she had mistook his unit for her own and believed he was an intruder.

But Brandt said he didn’t want Guyger to go to prison and that he forgave her.

“If you truly are sorry—I know I can speak for myself—I forgive you,” Brandt said to Guyger. “And I know if you go to God and ask him, He will forgive you.”

Watch his powerful impact statement.
